About the Author & Project Origins

The AirCard project was conceived, architected, and developed by software engineer Mak5er. Recognizing that Apple Wallet offers limited built-in card styling options for consumer passes, Mak5er developed AirCard as a native macOS application that bridges Mac desktop systems with iOS devices using Apple's private device communication frameworks.

The project is hosted publicly on GitHub at github.com/Mak5er/AirCard under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (GPL-3.0). This open-source license grants users and developers the freedom to inspect, compile, audit, and modify the source code, fostering transparency and safety across the community.

Repository Structure & Technical Architecture

The AirCard repository is structured into modular Swift and Objective-C layers that handle various aspects of device interaction and asset processing:

  • Device Communication Layer: Interfaces directly with macOS system daemons, including usbmuxd and the Apple Mobile Device framework. This layer negotiates USB socket descriptors, lockdown certificates, and packet framing for local device commands.
  • PassKit Parser & Asset Injector: Traverses the pass bundle hierarchy on the connected iPhone. It reads installed .pkpass containers, extracts cached graphical headers, and writes updated image payloads into the designated pass storage directory.
  • User Interface & Live Preview: Built with native macOS AppKit / SwiftUI components, providing hardware-accelerated pass rendering, responsive aspect ratio calculation, and drag-and-drop artwork management.

How to Track Issues & Report Bugs

The GitHub Issues tracker at github.com/Mak5er/AirCard/issues serves as the primary hub for bug discovery, feature requests, and device compatibility discussions. When interacting on GitHub, observe these constructive practices:

  • Search Existing Issues First: Before submitting a new report, verify whether your symptom has already been documented. For instance, frequent USB detection questions are covered in Issue #126 and Issue #26.
  • Provide Exact Environment Details: Always include your Mac processor type (Apple Silicon or Intel), macOS version, iPhone model, and iOS version.
  • Do Not Share Sensitive Personal Information: Never post screenshots of full payment card numbers, personal identifiers, or security credentials.

Compiling AirCard from Source Code

Developers who prefer not to run pre-compiled binaries can clone and compile AirCard directly using Apple Xcode on macOS:

# 1. Clone the official repository
git clone https://github.com/Mak5er/AirCard.git

# 2. Enter the project directory
cd AirCard

# 3. Open the project in Xcode
open AirCard.xcodeproj

Within Xcode, select your local development team in the project signing settings, choose "My Mac" as the target destination, and press Cmd + B to build or Cmd + R to run. Compiling from source provides ultimate security assurance, as you verify every line of code executing on your system.

Please note that AirCardGuide is an independent community documentation website created to organize guides, tutorials, and troubleshooting knowledge.
